Kathleen Lewis

Uncertain Love
Digital Photography
11" x 14"

This work titled, Uncertain Love by Kathleen Lewis explores issues related to self-image.
It glances at the insecurities women face due to society and what is viewed as "beauty" or "the perfect size."
 The stance and body language in this photo express a shyness and a fear of exposing her body.

The blurred head and face are showing a few concepts:
1) Not wanting to be recognized;
2) Shaking back and forth as to say, "No, don't look at me!"; and
3) The one side of the face, where the eyes are looking directly into the camera,
as if to see the viewer's reaction…looking and hoping for acceptance.

Kathleen, herself, has struggled with insecurities over her body, and
by entering this photo of herself, she is making an attempt to overcome them.
